[英文基礎文法]other、the other、another的區別

這些看起來很像的單字，有著不同的意義。

1）Other 其餘的、剩下的、其他的

作為形容詞時

# 因為是形容詞，所以後面接名詞，代表其他。例如：other people其他人、other dogs 其他狗

作為代名詞時

# other做為代名詞，其實就是代替other（形容詞）+名詞。例如：

other people = others （前者other是形容詞；後者other是代名詞）

# other是代替單數名詞；others則代替複數名詞。

# 常搭配Some一起使用：Some…Other…一些人～其他～

Some people like to go out on weekend while others like to stay home. 一些人喜歡假日的時候出去；其他則喜歡待在家。

2）the other 另一個

the other 的用法和other幾乎相同；不一樣的地方在於： other沒有指定，但the other有指定。

有指定是什麼意思？

當你話講到一半，對方已經可以得知剩下的是哪些群體，那我們就稱剩下的那些為＂有指定＂

舉例來說：

I have two sons.One of them is 7-year-old,and the other is 5-year-old.我有兩個小孩，其中一個7歲，另一個5歲。

我們話講到一半的時候，你已經知道剩下的那個是誰了。

作為形容詞時

In my class,some boys like to play the basketball.The other boys like to play the baseball.在我們班，一些男孩喜歡打籃球；其他男生喜歡打棒球。

The other boys 就是指在班上，除了喜歡打籃球以外的那些男孩。

作為代名詞時

In my class,some boys like to play the basketball.The others like to play the baseball.在我們班，一些男孩喜歡打籃球；其他男生喜歡打棒球。

和上面一樣的句子

當形容詞的時候，我們寫作The other boys.

當代名詞的時候，我們可以直接改成The others.

# the other boys =the others

3）another 另一個、再一個

常常和the other 做比較，兩者都有＂另一個＂的意思，但the other有指定，another沒有。例如：The pen is out of water.Can I get another one?這枝筆沒水了，我可以拿另一枝嗎？我要再拿一枝筆，那枝筆隨便一枝都可以，沒有指定，我們就會用another,而不是the other。

We still have a lot of times.May I have another coffee？我們還有很多時間。我可以再喝一杯咖啡嗎？

***經典句型（國中必出考題）***

One…another…the other….

當我們描述三個以上的事物時，就會用著個句型。

# 因為話講到最後，我們會知道最後一個是剩餘的那個，所以最後都會用＂有指定＂的the other收尾。

I have three pens.One is red,another is blue,the other is green.我有三枝筆。一枝紅的，另一枝藍的，最後一枝是綠色的。
